Importing Profiles

Overview

The import tool lets you bring profiles into Qik from a CSV file. This is useful when migrating from another system, onboarding a new group of people, or updating existing records in bulk.

Starting an Import

To begin an import:

  1. Navigate to People in the sidebar menu
  2. Click Import from CSV (this button appears prominently when you have fewer than 10 profiles, and is always available from the profile list view)
  3. Upload your CSV file

Preparing Your CSV File

Before importing, ensure your CSV file is properly formatted:

  • The first row should contain column headers (e.g. 'First Name', 'Last Name', 'Email')
  • Each subsequent row represents one profile
  • Use consistent formatting for dates, phone numbers, and other structured data
  • Save the file in UTF-8 encoding to properly handle special characters

Mapping Fields

After uploading your CSV, you'll be presented with a field mapping screen. Here you need to match each column in your CSV to the corresponding field in Qik:

  1. For each CSV column, select the target Qik field from the dropdown
  2. Columns you don't want to import can be left unmapped
  3. Preview the mapping to ensure data will land in the correct fields

Handling Duplicates

During import, Qik can detect potential duplicates based on matching criteria like name and email. You'll have options to:

  • Skip duplicates — Don't import rows that match existing profiles
  • Update existing — Merge imported data into existing matching profiles
  • Import all — Create new profiles regardless of matches

Reviewing Results

After the import completes, you'll see a summary showing:

  • Number of profiles successfully created
  • Number of profiles updated (if merge was selected)
  • Any rows that were skipped or encountered errors

You can monitor the progress of large imports from the import status page.

Tips for a Successful Import

  • Start with a small test file (10-20 rows) to verify your mapping before importing the full dataset
  • Clean your data before importing — remove obvious duplicates and fix formatting issues
  • Back up important data before running large imports
