What are Events?
Events in Qik represent scheduled occurrences — meetings, services, classes, rehearsals, conferences, or any other time-based activity your organisation runs. The Events section provides tools to create, schedule, manage, and track attendance for all your events.
Navigating the Events Section
The Events section is accessible from the main sidebar menu. When you open it you'll see:
- Smart Lists — Saved filtered views of events, each with quick links to view as a calendar, roster, or list
- Event Types — If your organisation has defined multiple event types (e.g. 'Sunday Services', 'Team Meetings'), they appear here with options to view their calendar, roster, or full list
- Upcoming Events — A preview of events coming up in the future, sorted by start date
- Past Events — Recent past events for quick reference
Event Types
Qik provides a default event type, but you can create additional event types through definitions. Each event type can have its own custom fields, making it easy to capture different information for different kinds of events. All event types appear in the Events section and can be browsed by type.
Creating an Event
To create a new event:
- Navigate to the Events section
- Click the + button next to the event type you want to create
- Fill in the event details including title, start date, end date, and any custom fields
- Save the event
Calendar View
The calendar view displays your events in a visual calendar format. You can:
- Switch between month, week, and day views
- Click any date to see events on that day
- Click an event to view its details
- Navigate forward and backward through time
Each event type and smart list has a direct link to its calendar view for quick access.
List View
The list view shows events in a sortable, filterable table. This is useful when you need to:
- Search across many events
- Apply advanced filters
- Sort by specific fields
- Export event data
Event Details
Each event stores:
- Title — The name of the event
- Start and End Date/Time — When the event occurs
- Status — Active or inactive
- Custom Fields — Any additional data defined by the event type
- Attendance — Check-in records (if the check-in feature is enabled)
- Roster — Assigned people (if rostering is enabled)
Recurring Events
For events that repeat on a regular schedule, you can set up recurrence when creating or editing an event. Qik supports daily, weekly, and monthly repetition patterns, generating individual event instances for each occurrence.
